Grocery trends for 2027
DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Fiber enhanced products, globally-inspired flavors and meals and functionality are among the trends Fresh Thyme Market expects to influence grocery innovation in 2027.
In partnership with SPINS, a provider of consumer packaged goods data, insights and commerce solutions, the companies highlighted what trends will be driving innovations in the annual Top 10 Trends report.
“The 2027 trends reflect a consumer who is informed, intentional and is looking for a basket of items that are innovative, curated, convenient and support their long-term well-being goals,” said Cecily Martinez, a registered dietitian at Fresh Thyme Market.
Fresh Thyme Market’s Top 10 Trends include:
- Global flavor mashups are being inspired by global cuisine across the grocery store.
- The brain food era will see more food and supplements positioned to support focus, memory and healthy aging.
- Bite-size joys will feature curated assortments of premium snacks, mini desserts, specialty beverages and other small luxuries.
- Fiber first will consist of more curated assortments of bread, cereals, snacks, beverages and everyday staples as consumers look to fiber as part of a broader approach to their overall wellness.
- Sprinkle culture is all about customization for consumers. Fresh Thyme said it expects to see sauces, seasonings, crunchy toppings and other add-ons so consumers may have more control over the newest innovations in flavor, texture and nutrition.
- More in every bite will include foods that deliver greater nutritional value in every serving to fit into consumers’ lifestyles. Fresh Thyme said products will combine protein, fiber, healthy fats and other nutrients.
- Fresh from the fridge is driving consumers to the refrigerated aisles for fresh snacks that Fresh Thyme said will include protein bites, dips, chilled beverages and snackable produce.
- Elevated meal shortcuts will entice consumers to look for what Fresh Thyme said are fresh marinated proteins, prepared vegetables, meal kits and ready-to-heat entrees.
- The resourceful kitchen is expected to have products that extend freshness, reduce waste or work across multiple meals.
- Frozen passport will showcase globally inspired meals, authentic flavors and high-quality solutions so international cuisines may be eaten at home.
The ocean pantry is a bonus trend that Fresh Thyme also identified as a growing trend where consumers are seeking seafood, seaweed snacks, kelp-based ingredients and algae-derived products.
